Toxic People

This was mainly a rant to be honest but maybe, just maybe you'll be able to make sense of it with its grammatical errors...

You see, after a certain incident, now more than ever I’ve come to the realisation that certain people need to be cut out of your life. No matter how much you think that they’ve been there for you or that they’ll change, they probably won’t. Stop telling yourself that it’s ok, you’ve known them for how much not years. CUT THEM OFF. It really isn’t healthy for you and they need to realise that what they’re doing is wrong and they can’t continue to treat you in ways that you think is unacceptable.

The worst part is when you realise that this person isn’t even doing this for a specific agenda but that their behaviour is just a part of their character. That is the worst. When the person honestly doesn’t see anything wrong with what they’re doing. Walk away. It may sound selfish but save yourself. Now more than ever, when talking about some people I realise I don’t like the person that I have become in those times. And I don’t think people should be subjected to me when I get that upset and my personality just seems so ugly. No one should have to be treated like that, and you shouldn’t treat people like that either. It isn’t right

Why is it that certain people fail to realise that their behaviour and character is ugly. Straight up ugly and unacceptable. It especially hurts when you see where this person is coming from and you know how hard their parents try with them and how kind hearted their parents are and then they just basically disgrace their parents. They bring shame to their name. As Mushu from Mulan would say, ‘Dishonour on your whole family. Dishonour on you, dishonour on your cow.’

As one of my friends would say, it’s time to get your shit together and realise who in your life is needed. Differentiate the leaves from the branches and the branches from the roots. Realise that the roots will always be there, rain, sunshine, snow, it doesn’t matter. Those are the people that you keep around for life. Realise that everyone else may come and go. But no matter what, remember that everyone that has come into your life is there for a purpose and to teach you something in life. Learn from your past mistakes and take a stand. Don’t take any type of behaviour from people, remember that you deserve to be treated with respect and you too should treat others with respect.

Voting

I apologise in advance for the grammatical errors that may pop up. i actually attempted to at least glance through it but some may have slipped me, but do enjoy....

So, nowadays, everyone is a part of a Whatsapp group, and sure that’s convenient for most things but it’s also annoying and so for the most part people have now put their Whatsapp groups on mute. Personally, I don’t mute them, but I don’t talk in them either….not that I’m in as many as some persons because 20 Whatsapp groups is just ridiculous. But the few that I am in rarely hear from me, however I read all the messages….or I at least try to. So the other night they sent a message in the group speaking about how the opposition leader was on campus and on another hall. I really didn’t see the big deal because even though I try to keep up to date about what’s going on in my country, I’m pretty much out of touch.

What did get my attention in the group was when persons started saying that they’d vote for this person IF they basically paid for their vote. And at first it was a joke but then, at least to me, it seems that one of the persons were serious. They even had the nerve to say that preference would be given to whoever gave them the most money in order for them to vote since all of them were the same anyways.

Now last time I checked it was illegal to buy votes, if not illegal then at least morally wrong. And when things like this are constantly being done I don’t understand how you expect the country to be any better. You complain, and complain, and complain but yet you’re still a part of the problem! I DON’T GET IT! How do you expect things to change then? Personally out of principle, if you’re trying to buy my vote then no, I’m not voting for you because what kind of politics are you really looking at? Obviously you’re not looking out for my interest because all you want are votes to win. You don’t really care.

Now, I also know that a good amount of ‘young people’ nowadays also ask the question ‘why vote when I don’t see anyone that I want to represent me?’ and I honestly don’t have the answer to that because I’m asking the same question because it has just really occurred to me that I’m at the legal age for voting in my country and not once did it ever really occur to me to vote or even get a national ID. So if you have the answer to that question, then please pass on the knowledge but what I do suggest is not to give away your vote just becayse someone giving you money to last you the most a week. Short term plans will not help us as a country in the long run, so let us try our best to make the right decisions.

The Free the Nipple Movement

Now it's not the best in grammar, but they are my thoughts, however jumbled they may seem

Free the Nipple movement

So while I was supposed to be finishing up an essay for a class, I was on twitter and saw a tweet that I guy posted about the whole free the nipple. He said that he thought it was just for attention seeking hoes(whether he was joking or not has yet to be determined). Now as a person who doesn’t take everything seriously, I really wondered what he was talking about. So, I decided, instead of doing school work to google the free nipple movement, and what I found was interesting.

So apparently what’s happening is because of this lady who wasn’t allowed to post a picture on Instagram with a jacket of two topless ladies on the back or with her wearing a sheer top (I’m assuming that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath). And so she then decided to walk around new York city topless and document her journey on twitter. Persons of the movement claim that even though it is legal for a male or female to not wear a top (or bra) in public in certain states, a female will draw more stares than a male. They also state that in the 1930s males had the same problem but they fought against it and now it is accepted as the norm for them however for a female she is more likely looked down on. Apparently it also involves breastfeeding, which apparently isn’t legal in some ways in certain states.

This all got me thinking, and to be honest after researching this, I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole thing. Personally, I don’t think I’d do it but at the same time when I look at why I would never do it, one would be because it’s not accepted in society, another would be that I am just not that comfortable with my body or nakedness on a whole. And why is that? Society once again. Though we can chalk it up to sexualising women, the same thing happens to men. You can’t tell me that as a woman you don’t look at a topless guy and imagine all kinds of things, it’s just more accepted than a woman. Another thing came to mind, those who state that us females aren’t sexual objects but if you are a part of this movement, that’s exactly what most guys are going to see you as. And I’m not saying this is right but it is what’s going to happen. And though we may want to change this, it will take a while, years or even decades because what is the norm now, will take a while to change.

In some cases I feel, if you don’t want to wear a top, that’s all on you, at the same time I don’t necessarily want to see it but I also don’t necessarily want to see a lot of things either. I think what needs to be done is taking it step by step. First start with the beach and breastfeeding. Because it is true, a female’s nipples, even on tv will be blurred out while a male’s are left alone. Why is that? Why is it that as a mother, you are unable or afraid to breastfeed your child in public because you might let your nipple be seen by the persons who take it upon themselves to actually look at you while you’re minding your own business. I’m not saying that everyone has to breastfeed their baby in public and use nothing to cover them but you choose what you want to do.

I honestly have mixed feelings about the whole thing but I think the reason most of us don’t want the ‘free the nipple’ movement to even be happening is because we’re uncomfortable with nakedness. All I have to say is, you do you. And as long as no one is being harmed I don’t have a problem….at the moment. I've been informed in the 2 seconds before posting this that it originally started with women and breastfeeding so do your research and go more in debt than i did, cause that's exactly what i plan on doing now...

What it's like

I may have made some grammatical errors cause I'm not an English major and I'm still human, but here are my thoughts on this. But first a video:

I was watching this video and it spoke to me on so many different levels. Sure I’m almost positive I’ve done a post like this before but what’s stopping me from doing it again. In the video these women talk about what it’s like to be a woman at night. And many times I don’t think some guys take us seriously. And the funny thing is it’s always the nice guys, or the ones that most time can never imagine this happening because they’d never do it themselves. And for that, I am truly grateful to know that there are still men around that don’t believe in things like this happening, that it shouldn’t be happening. However, it does

As a female myself, walking ALONE at night is and forever will be one of the most frightening things that you can do. To me it’s almost like taking risk with your life. Why, some may ask. Because you never know what may happen. Sure, we like to say we’re big and bad and we can take care of ourselves. And for the most part, those of us that say we can, actually can. But what happens when we encounter someone who is so much more physically stronger than us or threatens us with a weapon. What next? No matter what we may say at some point we are weaker. We might not like to admit or even refuse but there comes a point where you have to acknowledge that we are not stronger than some opponent is. And though some of us refuse to say it, others both think it and say it. And many of those are men. Some who take great joy in trying to hurt us or show their dominance over us and the way in which they go about this is what is most frightening. That is what scares us. Not them sitting down and trying to have a logical conversation, no. Them deciding that it is there duty to sneak up on us and attack. That we are the more vulnerable and so we’re easier to attack and get what they want. Whether it be money, items of value or even sex, they decide that they must take it by force and what easier way than to attack a woman who is physically weaker than I am and will most likely not fight back.

As someone who does not live in the minds of those who choose to do these acts, I honestly cannot say that this is what they think. This is only what I think they would think. If that makes any sense to you. And so I use this as my platform just to speak of this. Some say, you have to take action and I say, that can only get you so far. I go to a university where I stay on an all-female hall and before school was out for the year, we had a self-defence lesson. Many of us were excited because they saw the necessity of this session and we were able to have persons come in and teach us how to defend ourselves when it came to certain situations. For that session, I was truly grateful but after realised, that no matter what we are taught and how much it means to us at the moment it is not until we are put in the situation where we’ll have to use those skills that it truly matters. Many of us hope we’ll never have to, and some don’t. But not all of us are as lucky. Up to last night I stepped out for a few minutes to go buy something and while walking I heard someone behind me and because I was alone, I started walking faster. To be honest with you I became terrified and thought up every possible scenario in my head. I may have overreacted, I don’t know. What I do know is that as a female, I feel more vulnerable going out at night by myself. I can’t speak for males because I honestly don’t know if they go through the same thing but guys always wonder, why girls go to the bathroom together and never by themselves, well maybe that mentality might add to it.

I’m not trying to paint women as weak here, I’m just trying to shed some light on a certain situation, maybe I didn’t bring it across effectively, maybe I did. I don’t know. I’m just typing as these thoughts come along. I hope you were able to either get something from this or even feel like you’re not alone when it comes to certain situations. Either way, I hope this made a difference to someone.

Valentine's Day - ish

Once again, as usual, I apologise for any grammatical errors which i may make but thank you for still reading anyways

Now Valentines day has come and gone and no Im not about to write a cheesy love post or a sour bitter woman one at that. Im not really about the clichés at this point in the late night at which Im writing this. What I wanted to do was really question those that said there is no such thing as having a good time on valentines day without having a man.

Now Im not a drinker or club goer so for the most part, clubs and alcohol arent my thing. But Ill never forget someone saying to me once that by me not going to a club I wasnt going to be having a good time and it appalled me that they could ever really say that. And I have proved that wrong so many times. Honestly, just getting together with some good friends on ANY night, not just Valentines day/night can show you how much fun you can have. Literally all we did was go  out and eat food, and it was one of the best nights Ive had since coming to university, one of the reasons because I dont go anywhere really, but it was still fun in my eyes and I think thats all that really matters.

Also the other night, my hall decided to have a social and there was karaoke, now, I know it sounds cliché but it actually is pretty fun, especially when with your friends and the whole crowd is feeling the song as much as you are. Get together with real, true friends and see the fun that awaits you, whether it be Valentines day/night, a regular Friday/Saturday night or any other night you just feel like going out(it could even be a night in). Dress up how you want to and have the time of your life just doing simple things and see how much fun youll have. I think thats all I really have to say, for now at least.
